The New Life Community Timeline
1989 – Private, inter-faith, non-profit organization established and incorporated.
1990 – First New Life Community residents welcomed at original location at 3509 East 154th Street.
1991 – Former school of St. Cecilia’s Church purchased for $1 from Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. Renovations commence.
1992 – Building opened with 15 resident apartments, program space for adults and children, a reflection space, kitchen, large meeting room, laundry facilities, classrooms, and administrative offices.
1994 – Outdoor playground constructed at New Life facility through grant from Ronald McDonald’s Children’s Charities of Northeastern Ohio.
1997 – New Life Community children create After School Service Club to give something back to the community.
2000 – Capital debt incurred for renovation of building retired; New Life Community is “debt free.”
2003 – Collaborations begin with Cuyahoga Community College and other educational and support facilities.
2006 – 250th New Life resident “graduates” from program after securing full-time job with benefits as well as permanent housing; sessions begin with several new residents and their families who hope to achieve this as well. |
